About slug.tools

slug.tools is a free toolkit of 8 URL utilities — slug generation, UTM tagging, URL parsing, encoding, link cleaning, and search-snippet previews — plus a library of practical guides on the parts of SEO and analytics that live in the address bar.

Who builds it

slug.tools is designed, built, and written by Abdessamad Bettal, an independent web developer. The tools cover the URL chores that come up on almost every web project — renaming permalinks during a migration, tagging campaign links, decoding a redirect URL — and each one ships with the reasoning behind it, so you know not just what to do but why.

How the tools work

Every tool runs as client-side JavaScript in your browser. There is no backend that receives your input: titles, URLs, CSV files, and tokens you paste never leave your device. That is a design decision, not a policy — there is simply no server code that could store them. See the privacy page for what the site does measure.

The logic is deliberately conservative. The URL cleaner only strips parameters known to be tracking-only; the slug generatortransliterates scripts it can romanize reliably and drops the ones it can't, instead of guessing.

How the guides are written

Each guide is written alongside the tool it explains and is checked against primary sources — specifications and the search engines' own documentation — rather than other blogs. Code samples are run before they are published. Where search-engine behavior is undocumented or has changed over time, the guides say so instead of presenting a guess as a rule.

Primary sources the guides rely on most:

Corrections and updates

Search engines and analytics platforms change their behavior regularly. When a guide is revised for accuracy, its “updated” date changes and the correction is made in place. AI-assisted drafting may be used for editing, but every claim is reviewed and verified before publishing.
